Different career opportunities need to be considered in the present employment climate
In the current job market tables have been turned. We are seeing larger numbers of qualified, bright and hardworking people becoming unemployed due to the financial situation and the recession in general. Although the number of organizations laying staff off would appear to have levelled out there is still no sign that many are actually starting to increasing their workforce and if they are, it is usually carefully, often using contractors. This means that a different type of individual is now making a larger contribution to the unemployment numbers, one who is often highly accomplished and motivated, but also now with nothing to loose. Perhaps we will see more risk takers in coming months looking for a franchise for sale or even to start up on their own completely.
Jobs in the public sector are under regular threat, with all political parties now suggesting that spending cuts are crutial in order to reduce the large amount of National Debt currently owed. Indeed this month we have heard that cuts will be made in education, a department one would have thought was sheltered against such cuts. The clear result of these and other spending cuts will be more job losses this time from the public sector.
RolesJobs in the Financial sector are still reducing and in manufacturing too. British Aerospace announced recently large job losses in the Northwest and this, along with the government reductions will increase the number of skilled unemployed still further.
In the private sector things have been harsh too but if a company is still in business and surviving after the length of the current recession then it would seen that it has been able to make the necessary changes to it’s business model or that it was recession proof. Either way it will in all probability still have made cuts to safeguard profit margins.
Perhaps these businesses are the ones that will be in a position to enlarge their workforce first and therefore one of the best to target if an individual is looking for a new job following redundancy or simply would like to move into a new line of business. Other than that the only other option for people searching for employment or to change jobs in the short to medium term is to consider working for themselves either by setting up totally by themselves or looking at a franchise opportunity.
Without a business idea setting up on your own may be hard but there are many franchise opportunities to consider that may provide a solution. The distinct alteration in the make up of the unemployed could well see a swell in the self employed figures, as previously safe roles have disappeared and left a dynamic and hungry unemployed workforce with nothing to loose and much to gain.
